Hamilton Mountain — The Ontario government is taking action to prevent and address gender-based violence in Hamilton Mountain by investing $4.5 million dollars over three years in two new and innovative projects.

The projects being funded in Hamilton Mountain are:

Interval House of Hamilton’s Coaching Boys into Men program received $2.3 million in funding. This prevention-based initiative engages male athletes and their coaches to promote respectful, non-violent relationships and to challenge harmful gender norms.

YWCA Hamilton’s THE SAFE HUB: Supports & Action For Empowerment of GBV Survivors & Those At-Risk initiative received $2.2 million. The program is designed to support survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) and individuals at risk, as part of YWCA Hamilton’s broader commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed, and wraparound services for women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals.

“Our government is continuing to take action to end gender-based violence in all its forms,” said Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services. “I’m proud that Ontario is funding new and innovative projects across the province that will prevent gender-based violence before it occurs. These projects tackle the root causes and are critical to breaking the cycle of abuse. Together with community partners, we are supporting local solutions and building safer and healthier communities for generations to come.”

This investment is part of Ontario’s actions to better respond to violence, build safer and healthier communities, and support women’s well-being and economic opportunities through Ontario’s action plan to end gender-based violence.

“I want to express my deep appreciation for the work that you do to prevent gender-based violence -- and more broadly I want to highlight the important work you do for our community including providing shelter, counselling services, and resources to women in Hamilton.”

– Monica Ciriello, Member of Provincial Parliament Hamilton Mountain & Parliamentary Assistant to the Attorney General
